Q. How to open a bank account and apply for ATM card?
A. Bring along your passport to any of the following bank;
- POSB / DBS – Goldhill Plaza [student pass is required]
- United Overseas Bank – Novena Square
- OCBC Bank – Lucky Plaza( Orchard ).
* It is useful to open a local bank a/c for purpose of overseas money remittance and other local payment of services including school fees, Tel bills, medicals…etc.
Q. Where to get an EZ Link Card / Stored Valued Smart Card?
A. You can purchase a $15 EZ Link Card at any MRT station. This card is a MUST for whoever wants to travel on public transport such as MRT and BUS.
Q. How to make a call out if I’m having my own mobile phone?
A. You can purchase the Pre-paid calling card from any of the stationery shop, mobile phone shop in shopping malls. At this moment we have three major Telco supplying the phone cards:
* the pre-paid card value is ranged from $15 to $50 per card depending on the respective Telcos’ requirement.
Q. How to set up a fixed telephone line / residential line in my room?
A. You need to have at least 6 months contract with Novena Hall. We will apply a residential line for you in your room. It will be installed within 1 week. You have to pay for the subscription fee of $25 every 3 months( subject to change of pricing by the Telco ) and a one time activation fee to SingTel. With this Tel Line you can also apply for a personal ADSL Broadband Internet a/c in your room.
Q. If I am sick, is there any clinic nearby?
A. Yes. There are several clinics within 5 to10 min walking distance from NVH. These clinics are located within the Shopping Malls in Novena Sq, Goldhill Plaza, IRAS Building…etc. There is also a major General Hospital named Tan Tock Seng General Hosp located above the underground Novena MRT.
Q. I need help to orientate myself to S’pore way of life, where do I get it?
A. The Hall admin office is open Mon to Fri from 9am to 6pm. Check with the duty Personnel or, consult your school teaching staff and counselors.
Q. Do you have any education consultant I can talk to about my study in S’pore?
A. Pls approach the Admin Office to fix an appointment with our Director. Alternatively you may approach your school / university lecturers for 2nd opinion.
Q. Do I allow to cook in the hostel or in my room?
A. No. It is the local Fire & Safety Ruling that disallowed hostel students to cook in the room. However you’re allow to heat-up your food in the provided Microwave oven on every floor’s Pantry. There’re also refrigerator & hot water supply provided on a sharing basis.
Q. I need to own a whole apartment unit with a Kitchen and Living Hall. Can the hostel provide me with similar arrangement?
A. This is an arrangement for the rental of a private apartment dwelling. We’re not able to provide it within the Hostel premises. Students are requested to let the Admin Office know about their requirements in specific details, and we’ll try to assist them by referring the request to our associate Housing agents.
