Our Advice :

Singapore has the lowest crime rate in the region. This is a very safe country to move around during the day or night. The city-state is economically vibrant and politically stable. However the peaceful environment cannot guarantee a "crime free" society. Our advice to all students is to be prudent and informed about the proper ways and means of tackling many day-to-day issues not taught in the textbook. When in doubt seek HELP from your school or hostel. The attached newspaper report contains only some of the live examples, which had taken place not long ago in Singapore.

From selecting a school to pursuing your overseas studies and scouting for a place to lodge, many foreign students need sound advice from reliable sources and institutions of high integrity. Following are some of our advices to foreign students who are not familiar with local business practices and common laws.

1.)  Seek the help of a local adult relative or adult friend before committing a purchase or signing a sale contract;
2.)  Deal only with bona fide business entity and registered companies;
3.)  Ask for identification from the person or organization that is asking for payment from you. There must be official receipt stating the particulars of the purchase and payment purpose;
4.) Verify and authenticate the source of information through Internet and relevant government bodies;
5.) When in doubt always do not commit, or make payment to whoever asking for it;
6.)  Do not hesitate to call the Police at 999 to seek help if there is reason to believe the person you deal with is committing fraud.
Where to file a complaint :
Small Claims Tribunals / Consumers Association of Singapore / MOE / Neighbourhood Police Post.
